DISC GOLF

DISC GOLF

What is DISC GOLF you ask? Lets face it....most people have no idea with DISC GOLF is. DISC GOLF is a game in which you throw a plastic disc into a series of metal baskets situated on an outdoor golf course. The objective is to complete the course in the fewest throws possible. Long story short....it's golf but with specific "frisbees" and you throw it into a metal basket instead of a hole. Some people call it frisbee golf.

The course that Team New Bern played on the other day was the one at Glenburnie Park. Glenburnie Park is located on Glenburnie Drive which is right off of Oaks Road. There are 18 holes associated with this course...and it is not on flat land! You have to throw uphill, downhill, around the trees (or in my case at the trees). The park is located on the Neuse River as well so you have to avoid throwing it in the water. One way to avoid throwing it into the water...have your friends stay there to block it from the water. See photo below ;)

While I'm discussing DISC GOLF at Glenburnie Park, let me tell you a few other things you can do at the park. They have a dog park that has two separate fenced in areas. One for big dogs and one for small dogs. It has a 6 ft tall chain link fence with electronic access so a membership is required. If you are a resident of New Bern, it is only $25 a year.

There are also four available "shelters" to host parties/picnic at (you have to rent them if you have an event). The park also includes a boat ramp with paved parking, a fishing pier, a playground for children (I climbed the rock tower so I guess adults too) and restrooms.

See you on the course (but stay clear of me--my discs do not go straight!)
